Festival Of Vintage York

Last weekend I popped along to the Festival Of Vintage in York hosted by the ever lovely (and crazy organised) Keely at Discover Vintage. I do always try to attend her events as they are fabulous with lots of entertainment and great quality vintage!

It was lovely to get out and about and finally meet some of our regular customers in the flesh! On the Sunday I also got to take along the wannabe photographer boy with me. I loved it, it was a great excuse to play pin up for the day! Enjoy!

BooBoo Kitty Couture and Bowling !

As a vintage aficionado I must admit I'm always a little skeptical about repro. I've heard horror stories of big companies selling cheap, polyester-y, poorly constructed piles of mush! So I must admit I've been a little weary when buying vintage style clothing. 

I have however been involved with local dressmaker Aislinn Ball of Boo Boo Kitty Couture quite a bit recently so bit the bullet and got a voucher. I decided to go for a pair of black cigarette pants and a black pencil skirt. Both are good staples and things I can never find to fit me due to my big bottom and loooooooong body! 

I picked them up this week and oh my, they are FABULOUS! She helped me pick the right fabric so they would accommodate my level of wriggle. Even when I'm sat still my limbs dance like octopus tentacles so they needed a little stretch! The fabric is also great, nice and thick so it holds a vintage shape, but still washable and easy to care for. Oh and they fit me like a dream. The rise is perfect they fit on the waist and bootay! Just crazy amazing. I want a pair in every colour. 

They are so amazing that I wore them bowling the next evening! My hair as I'm sure you can guess was not by me, but by another lovely local lass Lucille ! £23 for a cut and style...... BARGAIN. She also does some very funky colouring but I haven't got the guts to dye my hair yet !

This Week On The High Street

I, like every other woman with a laptop and a to do list, am an avid online procrastinator shopper. So I decided to finally do something useful with this little addiction and start a weekly feature to share all the best rockabilly & vintage inspired bits and bobs.

New Year- A Trip to Wayne Manor

Happy New Year everyone! 

I realise I'm rather late with that one but never mind. I realise I've been a terrible blogger and haven't posted in close to six months. Naughty Naughty!!! So I thought I'd share an exciting little trip I was bullied in to taking the other day. 

Apparently it is compulsory in the new year to go walking. Those of you that know me, know I don't walk, it's cold and I don't understand the point. Me and the man compromised though and instead went somewhere cool, Wollaton Park a.k.a Wayne Manor. It was super chilly so here's me wrapped up trying to keep toasty.

The house is so beautiful from the outside. I have so much appreciation for how much work must have gone in to making it so incredible having grown up in a victorian house that my mum fully restored. The inside is actually a little disappointing. A lot of it has been turned in to learning facilities and all the original features have been covered and all the floors are now cheap school style carpet and they've installed strip lighting. Many of the exhibitions look tired and poorly maintained. Such a shame. 

It was all actually pretty exciting though, I got my photo taken with Batman and spent a lot of time wandering the gardens pretending to be a superhero. Then man told me I had to pose for the obligatory "I'm at Bruce Wayne's house" photo. 

Scarf- thrifted. Faux fur coat-my mums 18th present. Jeans - Sainsburys (shhhh!). Bag - stolen from the shop. Boots- mums hand me downs.

So if you are passing through Nottingham do pay it a visit. It really is lovely, and I can admit (but don't tell the man!) that it is a lovely place to go walking.

Wednesday Wishlist: 18th July

We are now the best part of the way through July (which means it's nearly my birthday!) and the weather is still a giant pile of pants. Big 'Ol greying granny pants. So what I am craving this week is some sun, not so I can get a tan or even vitamin D, but so I can justify spending a stupid amount of money on beautiful cotton 50's dresses.

There is however someone at the moment who gives me serious dress envy. Miss Liz Tregenza. You NEED her blog in your life, you can find it HERE. The best thing is that she's currently selling off some of her collection on eBay to fund her masters at the Royal College of Art. She is going to be a modern day Coco Chanel, so if one if these dresses wasn't a good investment anyway, the fact that it belonged to her certainly makes it so! Llama Llamaface

6 very long months ago I took the photo below of by beautiful big sister (looking like a snail ) before she traipsed off to the southern hemisphere! She ran the Garden of Unearthly Delights in Adelaide, Australia for a number of weeks before heading to New Zealand and then to south America.  In her bag I packed many silly little cards for her to open throughout her journey. The best being the Llama related card.

I don't really know why but me and Rach always revert to being about 4 and 8 when we are together and sing a number of ridiculous songs including "The ladies Bra" made popular by radio 1, and this lovely little llama song.

Wednesday Wishlist- 27th June

As many of you know, I am totally against high street shopping. Mostly because the fabric is dreadful, synthetic tosh and the quality of craftsmanship is just awful. However in Nottingham city centre we have recently had an Aubin and Wills open.

Aubin and Will was opened in 2008 by *cough* Jack Wills *cough*. I will try not to go on for too long about this but I hate Jack Wills and EVERYTHING about it. You really cannot fathom how much hate I have for it. So on visiting Aubin and Wills for the first time I had very low expectations.

However it's a beautifully presented, light, modern, uncluttered shop with plenty of space to browse the lovely evenly spaced rails. Although none of the designs or prints are particularly ground breaking the styles are super easy to wear and the fabrics are amazing. They are so soft. Mmmmmmm.

I know it still doesn't really sound like my thing, but working from home now I don't want to wear anything too restrictive or delicate, yet my pyjamas just make me want to go back to sleep. I just want to throw something on with socks or tights and not look like a total tramp.

Although it's very much on the pricey side they have a sale on at the moment with 50% off a lot of their stuff. This makes it more slightly acceptable considering how much I'm going to wear the stuff! You can shop online here : www.aubinandwills.com
